Henri Rantala: “Availability and ease of use decided in favour of JAK Tree Shear”

Ease of use and worry-free operation were important selection criteria for Rantala, as the entrepreneur wants to spend his days working with customers, not in a workshop.

“I work in energy harvesting in southern Central Finland, where the terrain is often quite challenging; steep slopes with swamps underneath and sometimes rocky forest. The sites include young forests, roadsides, field sites, landscape clearance and problem tree removal. 80% of the work is restoration of young forests, where the sites have generally been abandoned for 20-30 years, or mature stands where the wood does not yet meet the dimensions of a timber harvest. Such sites would be expensive, slow or even impossible to carry out as forestry work, but this is where JAK Tree Shear is at its best. At the same time, the forest can be age-structured: clearing, sparse first thinning and removal of poor overstory trees, leaving the forest in good growing condition.

Henri Rantala is used to working in challenging conditions

Over the years I have used many different types of tree shears, but the JAK Tree Shear stands out in terms of usability and reliability. In the past, breakdowns were frequent and various repair and maintenance work had to be carried out at short intervals. All the time spent in the workshop is taken out of the entrepreneur’s time off and pay packet.

The JAK Tree Shear is compact in size and simple in design. It is much more durable than the tree shears I have used in the past. Regular greasing is the most important maintenance, it goes a long way.

Power even for cutting down a big tree

I think the JAK Tree Shear is a very versatile device. I can quickly take out a small tree with it, but it has the power to cut down a big tree. It’s strong and reliable, you don’t have to twist and turn to get the wood out. That’s why it can safely remove even problem trees near settlements.

As a bonus, in the tree shear I have a JAK-designed stem cutter to spray the stem cutter furrow to prevent the spread of root rot. This has not been available before for this type of guillotine trough.

For professionals or hobbyists

I have been very satisfied with the JAK tree shear and the service I have received. The service and spare parts service is excellent. From the very beginning I have had the feeling that JAK listens to its customers’ needs and is constantly developing its products with the customer in mind.

“I can recommend the JAK Tree Shear to professionals and amateurs alike. It is a great accessory for an excavator. With the same machine you can first cut down the trees, then switch to the bucket and start making the road. It is also 100% suitable for year-round energy harvesting.”
