JAK’s range expands – seven new models for cutting and handling trees

JAK’s new products expand the possibilities for tree felling, clearing, and timber handling. The new S-series brings grapple saws to three excavator size classes, and the R- and C-series will feature even larger tree shears. The LogRunner GS38 and MGS40 complete the lineup with saw products designed for crane use.
This renewal is a response to the growing and diverse needs of contractors. Whether it is roadside clearing, problem tree removal, or mass harvesting of energy wood, our new products ensure that there is a solution optimized for the carrier and the application at hand.
The new S-series: grapple saws for 4–25 tonne excavators
The S-series grapple saws are designed for felling, cross-cutting, and handling trees. In the S-series, a 360-degree hydraulic rotation system, three-finger jaws, and a felling support are included as standard equipment.
The rotation system makes it easier to direct the grapple to the cutting point, and the felling support helps guide the tree during felling. Thanks to the electro-hydraulic control, all functions operate through a single double-acting hydraulic circuit. Chain lubrication is automatic and tensioning is manual.
Three models offer options for different sizes of excavators:

JAK-350S
For 4–8 tonne excavators
Cutting capacity 350 mm

JAK-400S
For 8–12 tonne excavators
Cutting capacity 400 mm

JAK-550S
For 12–25 tonne excavators
Cutting capacity 550 mm
The S-series is suitable for applications such as roadside and construction site clearance, as well as cross-cutting trees on the ground. The different size classes allow the attachment to be chosen according to both the carrier and the trees being handled.
The R-series is complemented by the robust JAK-400R model

The new JAK-400R expands the R-series of double-jaw tree shears into a larger size class. It is designed for 25–35 tonne excavators and has a cutting capacity of 400 mm.
The heavy-duty double-jaw structure is suited for heavy clearing work and energy wood harvesting. The grapple can be equipped according to the application: a 360-degree hydraulic rotation system, eBoost, and a collector are available as optional accessories.
The optionally available eBoost combines fast movement with cutting power that increases as needed. When cutting smaller trees, one cylinder is used. As resistance increases, the second cylinder engages automatically and without delay, with no noticeable interruption in the cutting motion.
The collector, in turn, holds previously cut small stems in the grapple while the next tree is being cut. This allows multiple stems to be collected before the bundle is lowered, which reduces unnecessary maneuvering..

The JAK-500C brings more cutting capacity to the C-series
The new JAK-500C is a single-jaw tree shear designed for 25–35 tonne excavators, with a cutting capacity of up to 500 mm. It combines a large cutting capacity with a simple and cost-effective structure.
The JAK-500C comes standard with three hydraulic cylinders and two eBoost units. When cutting smaller trees, one cylinder provides a fast movement. As resistance increases, a second, and if necessary, a third cylinder engage automatically and without delay. The operator does not need to change the operating mode.
The fast closing action helps to keep even small stems and branches firmly in the grip. The fast return movement shortens the work cycle. Thanks to the closed hydraulic circuit of the eBoost, the rapid motion function does not cause the oil to overheat.
A felling support is available as an optional accessory to assist with tree control during felling.
LogRunner GS38: felling, cross-cutting and loading with a single attachment

The LogRunner GS38 is a tilting grapple saw for tractor forestry cranes, forest machines, and truck-mounted cranes. Its cutting capacity is 380 mm and its opening is 910 mm.
The GS38 combines tree felling, cross-cutting, and loading into a single attachment. The tilt function makes it easier to transition between cutting, handling, and loading positions. The cut pieces of wood can be moved in a controlled manner to, for example, the ground, a load space, or a chipper.
Typical applications include roadside clearance, problem tree removal, and handling trees in tight spaces.
LogRunner MGS40: a loading grapple and a saw in one

The LogRunner MGS40 combines a conventional loading grapple and a hydraulic chainsaw. It is suitable for tractor forestry cranes, forest machines, and truck-mounted cranes.
With the MGS40, timber can be gripped, sorted, moved, loaded, and cross-cut without changing attachments. The cutting capacity is 400 mm, and the large 1,200 mm opening is well-suited for handling stems, branches, and bundled material..
Both the GS38 and MGS40 feature electro-hydraulic control, where all functions operate via a single double-acting hydraulic circuit. Chain lubrication is automatic and tensioning is manual. Rotators and mountings are available according to the customer’s carrier and needs.

Manufactured in Finland
The new models are manufactured in Finland at JAK’s own factory. The structures use SSAB’s steels, including Hardox® wear-resistant steel.
